about

Ian Smith is a fine artist with a growing reputation from the seaside town of Leigh on Sea in Essex. His studio/gallery is located in a quaint alleyway near the fine 19th century library, formerly the Rectory, and he welcomes visitors to view his work and discuss commissions.

He has painted for many years and his work is immediately appealing for it’s strength, colour & design, whatever the choice of medium or size. He is often to be seen out and about in Leigh sketching and painting views of familiar and not-so-familiar views of local landmarks, many of which will later be worked up into major finished paintings. He often paints with fellow artist Sheila Appleton although their styles are quite different. Ian Smith works in pen and wash, oils, acrylics, mixed media collage and assemblage.

His subjects include local views, paintings from foreign travel, and other parts of the UK, imaginative works derived from nature, and box structures containing memorabilia concerning specific themes. If you like the art of John Piper, David Gentleman, Paul Nash, Edward Bawden and other 20th century English painters, you will love Ian Smith.
